ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
Time spent in Sunday School at Tuckston UMC is time spent in spiritual growth, Christian service, and fellowship. The variety of class formats, composition, and schedules provides the opportunity for everyone to find a class that fits their faith journey. Many of the classes support a mission project. Class members also gather socially outside of class periodically throughout the year for special occasions.
There are currently six classes at 9:45 a.m. and four classes at 11:00 a.m.
9:45 A.M. CLASSESBecomers
This class of middle-aged adults uses contemporary Christian books to study thought-provoking subjects that are Bible-based. Class study may focus on history or an aspect of discipleship. One of four facilitators leads an informal discussion.Co-Workers
This is traditionally a class of senior members of the church who rely on a United Methodist Church (UMC) lesson guide for bible study. The class facilitator rotates quarterly among five different class leaders. The lesson guide progresses through the Bible and cites specific scripture that is supportive of the lesson theme. At the end of each study cycle, the class returns to the Old Testament and focuses on a theme.Gatekeepers
Most of the members of this class are middle-aged. The class leader suggests a set of scriptures from the Bible for the class to study over a certain time period. Each study is intended to allow class members to grow in grace and wisdom in their Christian walk. The leader reads aloud the passage being examined and then leads discussion.Genesis
This class focuses on a study of the Bible from beginning to end. Emphasis is placed on having a better understanding of symbolism and how scripture can be applied to daily life. The leader distributes a set of questions at the beginning of each class that will be addressed in discussion. A couple leads the group and there is no completion timeframe.Pathmakers
This large gathering of middle-aged adults uses the same UMC study material as the Co-Workers class. The facilitator introduces the lesson and the class splits into groups of six to engage in discussion. The group comes back together to compare their insights. This class is highly participatory and members get to know each other quickly.Upper Room
The class selects a contemporary book to study for a four- to eight-week period. Studies are focused on revealing and bringing guidance to daily life through Christian published works. Members of this class strive to achieve a clearer understanding of biblical writings. The class has an established leader.11:00 A.M. CLASSES
Faithlinks
This is a large class with a broad age range of members. The historical or contemporty Christian books that they elect to study have relevance to everyday situations. The facilitator/class leader fosters discussion within the group. Other times, the class studies a book of the Bible. Although informal in format, members are diligent in preparing for class each week.Lighthouse
This is a spirited class of primarily young adults. They are enthusiastic about building their faith in words and deeds and are active members of the congregation.
During class they will study a popular Christian book or focus on an aspect of the Bible. The members of this class look for studies that will enable them to bring the Christianity being studied into their daily lives. A study section generally lasts about six weeks.Seekers
This is a small gathering of middle-aged adults who are spiritually linked through an open sharing of concerns and prayers. One member typically serves as class leader and facilitator. The study material is focused on furthering their growth as Christians and is decided by consensus and they study approximately two books each year. In addition, Bible selections are read each week to serve as living guides.
